چکیده
Abstract The radius and surface composition of an exploding massive star, as well the explosion energy per unit mass, can be measured using early ultraviolet (UV) observations core-collapse supernovae (CC SNe). We present results from a simultaneous Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) Palomar Transient Factory (PTF) search for UV emission SNe. analyze five CC SNe which we obtained near-UV (NUV) measurements before first ground-based R -band detection. introduce SOPRANOS, new maximum likelihood fitting tool models with variable temporal validity windows, use it to fit Sapir & Waxman shock-cooling model data. report four Type II progenitor radii in range * ≈ 600–1100 ⊙ shock velocity parameter v s 2700–6000 km −1 ( E / M 2–8 × 10 50 erg/ ) one IIb SN 210 11,000 1.8 51 ). Our pilot GALEX/PTF project thus suggests that dedicated, systematic survey NUV band, such wide-field explorer ULTRASAT mission, is compelling method study properties progenitors energetics.

The GALEX View of Supernova Hosts
We exploit the accumulating, high-quality, multi-wavelength imaging data of nearby supernova (SN) hosts to explore the relationship between SN production and host galaxy evolution. The Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX, [1]) provides ultraviolet (UV) imaging in two bands, complementing data in the optical and infra-red (IR). We compare host properties, derived from spectral energy distribution (...
متن کاملPTF 11kx: a type Ia supernova with a symbiotic nova progenitor.
There is a consensus that type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) arise from the thermonuclear explosion of white dwarf stars that accrete matter from a binary companion. However, direct observation of SN Ia progenitors is lacking, and the precise nature of the binary companion remains uncertain. A temporal series of high-resolution optical spectra of the SN Ia PTF 11kx reveals a complex circumstellar envi...
متن کاملInitial Shock Waves for Explosive Nucleosynthesis in Type II Supernova
We have performed 1-dimensional calculations for explosive nucleosynthesis in collapse-driven supernova and investigated its sensitivity to the initial form of the shock wave. We have found the tendency that the peak temperature becomes higher around the mass cut if the input energy is injected more in the form of kinetic energy rather than internal energy. Then, the mass cut becomes larger, an...
متن کاملRevival of the Stalled Core-collapse Supernova Shock Triggered by Precollapse Asphericity in the Progenitor Star
Multi-dimensional simulations of advanced nuclear burning stages of massive stars suggest that the Si/O layers of presupernova stars harbor large deviations from the spherical symmetry typically assumed for presupernova stellar structure. We carry out three-dimensional core-collapse supernova simulations with and without aspherical velocity perturbations to assess their potential impact on the ...
متن کاملNew Constraints on the Energetics, Progenitor Mass, and Age of the Supernova Remnant G292.0+1.8 Containing Psr J1124-5916
We present spatially resolved spectroscopy of the supernova remnant (SNR) G292.0+1.8 with the Chandra X-ray observatory. This composite-type SNR contains the 135 ms pulsar, J1124-5916, recently discovered by Camilo and coworkers. We apply non-equilibrium ionization (NEI) models to fit the ejecta-dominated regions and to identify the blast wave of the supernova explosion. By comparing the derive...
